Minster represent Mansfield Town in Utilita Girls Cup

On the 18th January 2024, the Utilita Girls Cup Area Finals were hosted by Doncaster Foundation for a chance to qualify for the Regional finals, with the winners being able to represent the club and school at Wembley during the League two playoff finals. 9 schools competed, representing clubs from Derby, Doncaster, Lincoln, Burton, Leicester, Hull, Notts County and Grimsby. This was the second year in a row for Minster to represent ourselves and Mansfield Town, after winning our qualifying round in November at the RH Academy.

In tough cold conditions, Minster started off in spectacular fashion, racing to a 2-0 victory over Derby County which could have turned into a third if it wasn't for the refs full time whistle. A 0-0 draw against the hosts, Doncaster moved the Stags onto 4 points from 2 games. Unfortunately, those were the last points the girls picked up, but it certainly wasn't through a lack of effort. In the end the 4 points was not enough to advance to the semi-finals, with Burton, Hull, Notts County and Lincoln going through.

We'd like to extend our thanks to the girls for representing Mansfield Town and the Community Trust, with an excellent display of football throughout the tournament. We hope the girls are proud of their efforts as much as we were, who were narrowly defeated on multiple occasions. We'd also like to thank Courtney Sweetman-Kirk for the tournament, who interacted with the participants throughout the afternoon!

Mansfield Town 0-2 Lincoln

Mansfield Town 0-2 Burton
