On Friday 10th October, Mansfield Town Community Trust welcomed Year 6 pupils from Mapplewells Primary, St Joseph’s Primary, and Parkgate Academy Radford Foundation Marquee tent at the One Call Stadium for a special Hello Yellow day, marking World Mental Health Day. The stadium was filled with laughter, learning, and, of course, lots of yellow as pupils explored what it means to look after their mental wellbeing.
The day aimed to promote positive mental health in a fun and engaging way, encouraging children to understand, discuss, and share ideas about wellbeing in a safe and supportive environment.
We held a nutrition workshop delivered by Izizy from Healthy Eating Solutions, highlighting the link between diet, energy, and mental health. Pupils explored how what we eat can affect both body and mind, learning practical tips for healthier choices. The interactive session encouraged curiosity and conversation about how nutrition supports overall wellbeing.

Pupils took part in a mental health workshop led by Lee Morris, Schools Mental Health Champion. The workshop explored what mental health means to the children and encouraged open conversations about feelings, challenges, and support systems.
One of the day’s highlights was the brick wall activity, where pupils identified factors that are good or bad for mental health. This visual exercise helped children reflect on everyday influences and understand how small actions can impact their wellbeing.
To finish the workshop, pupils were set a creative challenge: designing 30-second videos aimed at younger pupils in their schools. Using A3 cards, marker pens, and their own brilliant ideas, the children produced imaginative and thoughtful content, reinforcing key mental health messages.

The day also included a stadium tour for each class, giving pupils a behind-the-scenes look at Mansfield Town’s facilities. Football sessions were delivered by expert coaches, combining physical activity with teamwork and fun.
The mix of learning and activity ensured the day was engaging, memorable, and impactful, showing that looking after your mental health can be active, creative, and enjoyable.

Learning Outcomes
Throughout the day, pupils reflected on what mental health means to them and explored ways to take care of their wellbeing. They completed pre- and post-event sheets to track their learning and understanding, providing a snapshot of how the activities and discussions helped build their knowledge, awareness, and confidence around mental health.
Teachers praised the day for sparking meaningful conversations, encouraging self-expression, and fostering teamwork among the pupils. Lee Morris highlighted the importance of early mental health education and how activities like these, combined with the Hello Yellow campaign and Young Minds resources, can make a lasting impact.
Lee Morris said: “It was such a privilege to play a part in #HelloYellow Day for primary schools in our inaugural event. In my workshops, we explored what’s good (and not so good) for our mental health, and how children can support themselves and others. I was blown away by the knowledge, insight, and openness of the children — it really reinforced how important it is to cover these topics early. Supporting young people to understand and care for their mental health is so vital, and days like this are a fantastic way to start the conversation.”
The day was a resounding success. Pupils left inspired, informed, and motivated to continue conversations about mental wellbeing back at their schools. From healthy eating tips to creative projects, football, and friendship-building activities, the event demonstrated the value of holistic approaches to mental health.
The event also showcased the power of community, as Mansfield Town Community Trust, schools, and young people came together to celebrate and promote positive mental health. Mental health is important every day, and initiatives like Hello Yellow remind us all to listen, support, and care for each other. Schools, families, and communities can continue these conversations, using the tools and tips shared during the day.
