Case Study: Eddie’s Unforgettable Mascot Experience

Eight‑year‑old Eddie, a proud pupil at Blidworth Oaks Primary School, discovered his love for football in the most classic way through a day out with his dad. One match was all it took. Surrounded by the excitement of the crowd and the buzz of matchday, he was instantly hooked, and his passion for the club has only grown stronger ever since.

When Eddie’s family first learned about the mascot experience around his eighth birthday, it felt like the perfect way to give him something unforgettable. Later, when a competition was announced for the FA Cup fixture, they entered with no expectations and were simply happy to support the Community Trust and be part of something special.

Eddie knew they had entered, but his parents had prepared him for the likelihood of not winning. That made the moment they received the news even more magical. When they showed him the video announcing he had been chosen, he was so stunned he could not speak. Once the shock faded, the excitement took over, especially knowing he would be going to the match with his dad and cousin after previously missing out on tickets.

A Day He Will Never Forget

Matchday brought a mix of nerves and anticipation. The atmosphere, the crowd, and the significance of the FA Cup tie made everything feel bigger. From the moment Eddie arrived, the Community Trust staff and players made him feel welcome and at ease.

The standout moment came as he prepared to walk out onto the pitch. Leading the team alongside Reed, Eddie felt the full energy of the stadium around him. Seeing his nerves, Reed placed a reassuring hand on his shoulder, a small gesture that meant the world. The moment was captured in a photograph that Eddie and his family will treasure for years.

As the day unfolded, Eddie’s confidence grew. The nerves melted away and were replaced by pure joy. Back at school, he was invited to share his experience in assembly, where teachers, including his headteacher who had spotted him on the pitch, celebrated the moment with him.

A Heart for Others

What makes Eddie’s story even more remarkable is what happened after the final whistle. Having already received a signed football from a previous mascot experience, he chose to donate his new one to his school. He felt it would not be right to keep two and hoped the ball could help raise money during the school’s one hundredth anniversary celebrations.

This generosity is nothing new for Eddie. At just six years old, he completed a sponsored run around Mansfield Reservoir and raised an incredible £1,175 for his school’s eco garden. Helping others is simply part of who he is, and he says it makes him feel “incredibly responsible.”

A Lasting Impact

For Eddie’s family, the mascot experience was far more than a day at the football. It was a moment of pride, joy, and togetherness, especially meaningful because Eddie often supports his younger brother, who has autism. This was a day that belonged entirely to him, and it made a lasting impression.

It also deepened his bond with the club. Since that moment, Eddie has already asked for season tickets for the 2026–27 season so he and his dad can continue sharing their love of the game. Looking back, his family describe the experience as unforgettable and something they will cherish forever. Their message to other families is simple. Do not hesitate. The Community Trust and the players create something truly special, and the memories last a lifetime.

Community Day

Eddie’s story is just one example of the incredible moments made possible through the Community Trust. Dedicated Community Days give families the chance to come together, celebrate their connection to the club, and share the experiences that shape our community. Every donation to the Trust helps us continue creating unforgettable memories like Eddie’s, while also giving people the opportunity to hear and share stories that bring our supporters even closer together.
