Protecting Our Local Heathlands Together 🌿

As part of our HAF programme, Mansfield Town Community Trust recently welcomed Carol from ATTFE College and Erin from Sherwood Forest Trust to Oak Tree Primary School for an engaging session focused on fire prevention and protecting our local heathlands.

The session gave children the opportunity to learn more about Oak Tree Heath and the importance of protecting the wildlife and species that call it home. They discussed how fires can have a devastating impact on heathland environments and explored some of the simple ways we can all help to look after these important local spaces.

To put their knowledge to the test, the children took part in a fun game of cornhole, with points linked to different heathland species.

The activity provided a fun and interactive way for the children to learn about the different species found across our local heathlands while reinforcing the importance of protecting them.

It was a great opportunity for our HAF participants to learn more about their local environment and understand how they can play their part in keeping Oak Tree Heath safe for both people and wildlife.
