Yesterday, Thursday 5th February, we held the Premier League Primary Stars National Girls Football Tournament Regional Qualifiers at the RH Academy, bringing together four schools from our local area: Sutton Road, Greenwood, Peafield Lane, and St. Peters Farndon.
All four teams made it to the qualifier finals after finishing top in the Q1 and Q2 runner-up games, setting up a competitive afternoon of football that we were all looking forward to.
However, the weather had other ideas, having a challenging impact on the day and disrupting the tournament. Despite this, it was fantastic to see the players showing great resilience and commitment, continuing to play with energy and determination throughout the tournament. Parents, staff, and supporters also played a massive role, staying to show their support for the girls and helping ensure the tournament could continue.
By the final round, Greenwood and Peafield Lane were equal on points, meaning that our overall winner was decided on goal difference. In the end, Peafield Lane sealed the qualifiers with an excellent final game against Greenwood, scoring four goals to edge ahead and lift the trophy.
As winners, Peafield Lane now move on to represent Mansfield Town in the Premier League Primary Stars National Girls Football Tournament Regional Finals. This will be hosted by Chesterfield at Staveley Miners Welfare FC, where they will face new schools from across the region. The winners there will then progress to the National finalsin Summer, which will be held at a Premier League stadium.
By the end of the tournament, we were joined by Monica Bowley, Captain of Mansfield Town Ladies Club, who presented the trophy to the winning team and helped them celebrate their well-earned win. The girls were also supported by Angie, a Her Game Too Ambassador, who helped present them with their individual trophies and celebrate the effort of everybody involved.
As an added bonus , Peafield Lane will also have the opportunity to join us as flag bearers at Mansfield Town’s Her Game Too dedicated fixture, which will take place on 14 March against Barnsley.
