#EFLWeekOfAction | Nathan’s Story: Building Confidence Through Community

As we wrap up #EFLWeekOfAction, we’re taking a moment to celebrate the remarkable growth and impact of our Healthier Communities department (formerly known as Health and Wellbeing). Under the dedicated leadership of Michal, this department has flourished over the years, bringing innovative and inclusive programmes to life for the benefit of our community.

One of our most successful initiatives is Active Minds, a vibrant Friday morning event held in our marquee tent. It’s the perfect mix of activity and camaraderie, with outdoor sports and engaging indoor games. A crowd favourite is the quiz sessions, which bring people together for laughter, learning, and friendly competition. A large part of our audience for Active Minds is participants from local day services.

We are proud to work closely with various day services across the area, delivering enriching experiences through physical activity and social engagement. Each session is unique, featuring a coach-led sporting activity tailored to the group’s needs, whether it's at the Day Service or at the One Call Stadium. These services include:

  • Ashfield Day Service

  • Mansfield Day Service

  • Newark and Sherwood Day Service

  • Portland College Day Service

Nathan’s Story: Building Confidence Through Community

One of the most heartwarming stories to emerge from our programmes is that of Nathan, a participant whose confidence and sense of belonging have grown immensely through his involvement.

Earlier this year, Nathan sent a heartfelt birthday card to Nigel Clough, the Mansfield Town manager. His thoughtful gesture caught the club’s attention, leading to an unforgettable opportunity: Nathan was invited to meet the players and the manager before a home game. During his visit, he toured One Call Stadium, mingled with his football heroes, and even got a chance to witness the behind-the-scenes workings of the club he loves.

This experience was life-changing for Nathan. Since that day, his confidence has skyrocketed. Nathan is now a familiar face in the stands at every home game, cheering passionately for the Stags.

Nathan’s story is a powerful reminder of how football and community can work together to inspire, uplift, and empower individuals. His journey continues to be a shining example of the positive impact of our programmes.

Looking Ahead

As we close EFL Week Of Action, we’re incredibly proud of how far our Healthier Communities department has come. From supporting mental health to promoting physical activity, our programmes are making a real difference in people’s lives.

Thank you to everyone involved in our journey so far—here’s to continued growth and making an even greater impact in the years to come!
