Today, at Mansfield Town’s game against Exeter, we are proud to welcome Oscar as our "Community Mascot", thanks to a kind donation from the Ollerton Stags Supporters Club.
Oscar’s journey has been one of extraordinary courage, compassion, and selflessness. His mum, Louise, nominated him for the mascot package to recognise the remarkable support he has given his family during an incredibly challenging time.
Oscar’s grandma was recently diagnosed with cancer of the womb. Sadly, the illness progressed quickly, and she passed away last Saturday. Throughout this difficult period, Oscar showed maturity far beyond his years. He devoted his evenings to caring for his grandma, providing comfort and company, and even staying overnight at the hospital so she would never be alone.
He never asked for recognition or reward. His only concern was ensuring his grandma felt loved, safe, and supported. His family is immensely proud of him, and we are honoured to celebrate his kindness and bravery today.
This story is especially poignant as it follows World Cancer Day, a day dedicated to raising awareness and honouring those affected by cancer. By sharing Oscar’s story, we hope to shine a light on the courage shown by young carers and the importance of compassion during such heartbreaking times.
Please join us in sending Oscar and his family our thoughts and support today. We hope that being our mascot brings him a moment of joy amid what has been an incredibly difficult time.
